Family Farm 1953, Dad, Sisters June and Fay and Brother Glen

Family / Farm History

My name is Diana (Eamer) Freeman and I`m proud to be a 7th generation farmer, carrying  on our family tradition, 230 years of farming in Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry. I own and operate Wild Rose Organic Farm. This was named after the rose bushes that my grandmother planted in which still grace the property to this very day. Our farm is cared for on the original homestead that has been in the family for well over 70 years. The focus is on producing fresh, healthy, organic vegetables and herbs.

From my dairy farm roots, I have spent the past 30 years, transitioning this site. This fertile location now boasts an array of traditional products such as carrots, beans, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, peas & radishes, but also provides more specialized items such as greens, kale and Herbs. Our products can be found at various farmers markets throughout the area as well as in the local green food box program.

Organic Foods provide a variety of benefits. Some studies show that organic foods offer more nutrients than their conventionally grown counterparts. The most important aspect is that there are no chemicals or pesticides used. These chemicals are widely used in conventional agriculture and residues remain on (and in) the food we eat. In addition, people with allergies to food, chemicals or preservatives often find their symptoms diminish or disappear when they eat organic foods.

Organic farming promotes sustainable health and protects the entire ecosystem - soil, plants, animals, people and even insects.

There is nothing "trendy" or "new" about organic farming. It is the way we produced our food for thousands of years. Though sadly today, most of our food is no longer grown in our back yard or even our neighborhood. Instead farms have become increasingly dependent on hybrid and "GMO" plants, large-scale irrigation, and heavy machinery. Chemical-dependent farming has grown to meet world demand at the cost of our environment and the very food we eat.
